DEALERSHIP NEWS
2011 is upon us…
Well the New Year is already here and it’s back to the coalface we all go (that’s if you ever left!). Just to wish everyone a prosperous, successful and healthy 2011. As Henry Ward Beecher once said, “Every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past.”

PRESS RELEASES
Honda Achieves First Flight of FAA-Conforming HondaJet

Greensboro, North Carolina, U.S.A., December 21, 2010 – Honda Aircraft Company, Inc., announced that it has successfully completed the first flight of its FAA-conforming HondaJet advanced light business jet. The event is a significant step in Honda's aerospace program leading to delivery of aircraft in 2012.

The first conforming HondaJet lifted off on December 20, 2010, from Honda Aircraft Company's world headquarters facility at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina. The HondaJet remained aloft for 51 minutes, during which time the aircraft's flight characteristics and performance were analyzed and systems checks were conducted. Various test data gathered during the flight were transmitted real-time to Honda's flight test telemetry operations base within the company's world headquarters facility.

BOATING TIP OF THE MONTH
Some Docking Tips

". . . I have just bought a new boat and struggle with getting her onto her jetty mooring, any comments or suggestions? Unfortunately I am in the middle of the rows of moorings, so I cannot just taxi in but must make a hard right turn. I keep bumping into the slips on the next dock over."

The best way to get good at docking is practice, practice, practice. With repetition, you start to get a feel for wind and current. First, don't get discouraged. You were not born knowing how to drive a boat just as you were not born knowing how to drive a car. You had to learn. And because boats don't drive like cars, it is another learning experience. A boat steers from the stern and pivots on its axis. So, when you steer to the right, for example, the stern of your boat moves to the left (which may be why you are bumping into the slips on the next dock over). Try visualizing "pushing" your boat in to the slip (somewhat like a shopping cart on ice).

NAUTICAL INFO
Sardine Run: Headlong Race for Survival of the Species

ScienceDaily (Dec. 28, 2010) — Between May and July each year, millions of sardine move northward along the East coast of South Africa to reach spawning sites where they release their eggs. This is the spectacular Sardine Run. The migrating fish come under relentless attack from dolphins, sea lions, whales, tuna, birds and fishermen during their headlong, even suicidal race. Why do the sardine brave such formidable dangers? How did this dogged migration arise?

Obituary - Johann Cloete
It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that Johan Cloete passed away in his sleep on 26 December 2010. Johann was a well known local seaman and businessman, and a great longterm friend of Honda Marine Knysna. His whalewatching boat, Lazy Turtle could always be seen taking tourists out the Knysna Heads, with Johann’s distinctive figure at the helm. Only good words and compliments about his stories and his tremendous knowledge of the sea were always to be heard around town. Huge in stature, gentle in nature, caring about people and always smiling, he was truly a big man and we and all who knew him will really miss him. Our sincere condolences go to Margaret and all the family.

NB. We sincerely hope that you are enjoying our regular monthly Newsletter. With this in mind should you have a friend or 10 whom you would like to introduce to the world of Honda Marine Knysna then please send us their email addresses… Thank YOU!
